The Photographic Arts Society was founded in 2004. Monthly meetings are held in the Ainsworth Gallery in Joliet Illinois, the oldest commercial gallery in Joliet showing works by living artists.

The mission of the Photographic Arts Society is to provide a network of fellowship for individuals, both amateur and professional, interested in enhancing and expanding their photographic skills as well as those who appreciate photography as an artistic expression. Their goal is to foster interest in photography and to provide an open forum for members to enhance their skills. The focus is on film photography, digital photography, and all art appreciation.

Photography enthusiasts of all skill levels from all areas of Chicagoland are invited to join. Monthly meeting programs include guest speakers and workshops on a variety of topics such as film types and antique cameras, and photography exhibitions by local artists and club members. Field trips to museums and galleries and special photography events are also provided for the group.
